For Rosh Chodesh Iyar

Last night, we began the month of Iyar —
a time known for healing.

אייר
אני ה’ רופאך

Iyar – Ani HaShem Rofecha
“I am HaShem, your Healer.”
(Shemot 15:26)

Here is a drasha of mine, in the spirit of Breslov, interwoven with the teachings of the ARI:

The month of Iyar is no ordinary segment of the year.

Our sages teach:
Its letters are a secret:

“Ani Hashem Rofecha”
— “I am HaShem, your Healer.”

But the question is:
What kind of healing is this?

According to the teachings of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, of blessed memory, every healing begins not in the body, but in a person’s consciousness.

Illness — whether physical or emotional —
is often a state of hester panim, a concealment.

A person feels separated,
cut off from the Source of life.

And precisely here, Iyar enters.

The Hidden Order of Healing

The holy ARIzal teaches
that the period between Pesach and Shavuot is a phase of

Tikkun HaMiddot —
the refinement of inner traits.

Each of the 49 days of the Omer corresponds to a combination of the seven lower sefirot:

Chesed,
Gevurah,
Tiferet,
Netzach,
Hod,
Yesod,
Malchut.

Healing, therefore, does not happen all at once.
It is a process of rebuilding the soul.

For example:
If a person is wounded in Gevurah (discipline/strength),
it may appear as fear or harshness.

If Chesed (loving-kindness) is blocked,
it may manifest as emptiness or emotional coldness.

The ARI reveals:
Every imbalance in the sefirot is reflected in a person’s life.

Iyar is the time
when these inner vessels are purified.

Breslov: Healing Through Simplicity and Voice

Rabbi Nachman goes even further.

He teaches:
The greatest healing lies in dibur — speaking with HaShem.

When a person says:
“Ani Hashem Rofecha”
it is not merely a verse.

It is a realignment of consciousness.

Because illness often comes from disconnection —
and healing comes through reconnection.

In the language of Breslov:

When a person practices hitbodedut —
secluding oneself and speaking to HaShem like to a close friend —
the light of healing begins to flow.

Not because the problem instantly disappears,
but because the soul becomes reconnected.

The Secret of Iyar

Kabbalah teaches
that Iyar is the only month whose name is an acronym of a complete sentence.

This means:

The month itself is a vessel for Divine speech.

And here lies a deep insight:
Just as the month is formed from words,
so too healing is activated through words.

Not only through formal prayer —
but through honest, simple speech.

Rabbi Nachman says:

“If you believe you can damage,
believe that you can repair.”

That is Iyar.

From Pesach to Shavuot — The Path of Healing

After Pesach, we are free —
but not yet healed.

Only at Shavuot do we receive the Torah —
the complete light.

In between lies Iyar.

Freedom without healing is unstable.
Healing without effort is an illusion.
That is why we count each day.
That is why we work step by step.

May this month be a time in which:

Hidden fractures come to light —
and are healed.

The voice of the heart becomes audible again.

And we come to feel that:

“Ani Hashem Rofecha”
is not a distant verse, but a present reality.

For the deepest healing is not only
that the pain disappears —

—but that a person comes to realize:

They were never truly separate.
