Tisha B’Av — On Megillat Eicha

In Megillat Eicha it is written:

“He has proclaimed a mo’ed against me.”

Our Sages explain that, in the future, Tisha B’Av itself will become a mo’ed—a festival.

For this reason, Tachanun is not recited on Tisha B’Av.

It is also written:

“He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers.”

Our sacred writings explain that the central theme of the month of Menachem Av is the restoration of our relationship with our Father.

It is the healing of the bond that has been damaged between us and our Father in Heaven.

It is remarkable that the Hebrew letter Tet (ט) appears only once in the Aseret HaDibrot (the Ten Commandments in Parashat Va’etchanan), namely in the commandment:

“Honor your father and your mother.”

From this we learn that our primary avodah (spiritual task) during these days is to rebuild and strengthen our relationship with our Father in Heaven.

That relationship possesses the power to influence all worlds.

May we never be afraid of drawing close to our Father.

“Take words with you.”

Words.

Speak to HIM.
