When My Emunah (אמונה) Feels Weak
How can I reconnect with my emunah?
The word EMUNAH can be understood as the following acronym:
E – Encounter
(Meeting)
- Encounter HaShem in everyday life.
Ask yourself:
“How is HaShem meeting me right now?”
- Find an ordinary moment and recognize it as an encounter with HaShem.
- Replace complaining with curious questions.
- Train yourself to notice HaShem before focusing on the problem.
M – Mother
(Mother / Source)
- Emunah comes from the Hebrew root “Em” (אם – mother).
- When you do not understand something, choose trust rather than demanding answers.
Say to yourself:
“I don’t have to understand everything in order to trust.”
- Replace fear with the awareness that you are a child of HaShem.
- Rest in His care before trying to control everything yourself.
U – Unseen
(The Unseen)
- Learn to see what is not yet visible.
- Look at a person’s potential rather than only their present condition.
Ask yourself:
“What might HaShem be bringing to growth here?”
- Choose hope instead of mere certainty.
- Trust the seed, even before you can see the tree.
N – Now
(The Present Moment)
- Emunah is lived in the present moment.
- Continually return to the here and now instead of living in the future.
Ask yourself:
“What does HaShem want me to do right now?”
- Replace busyness and haste with presence.
- Let this moment be enough.
A – Awareness
(Conscious Awareness)
- Develop a constant awareness of HaShem’s presence.
- Notice every invitation HaShem places before you.
- Respond intentionally instead of reacting automatically.
- Become aware of your thoughts and actions before they take over your attention.
- Choose presence instead of the desire for control.
H – His Presence
(His Presence)
- Live with an awareness of HaShem’s presence.
Spend one minute each day simply being with HaShem.
Go through your day consciously and ask yourself:
“Where are You, HaShem?”
Replace the question,
“Why is this happening?”
with
“Where is HaShem in this situation?”
End each day by remembering one moment in which you sensed His presence.
The Central Message
Emunah is not primarily a feeling—it is a relationship to which I continually return.
I do not need control—
I need connection.
I do not need more time—
I need this moment.
I do not have to change the entire world—
I can change the way I live within it.
Rega (רגע – the present moment)
brings
Roga (רוגע – calmness and serenity).
Within this lies true inner freedom.
This summary draws together the ideas expressed in the graphic and connects the English acronym EMUNAH with its spiritual meaning in the Jewish understanding of
אמונה
—faith, trust, and steadfast fidelity to HaShem.
